Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union
Today, over 115 million Americans enjoy the benefits of credit union membership. When you become a member, you become a shareholder. That means credit union profits come back to you in the form of better rates and better service. In 2018, credit unions provided over $11 billion in direct financial benefits to their members.
Not everyone fully understands the credit union difference, however. At the start of 2019, the Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) in collaboration with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) launched a new campaign titled, “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” to educate a new generation of consumers. The campaign was designed to raise consumer consideration of credit unions as a category and disprove consumer myths associated with the ability to join and access to money.
“We’re thrilled that “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” is launching in Minnesota and that our work with MnCUN and credit unions in the state have led to this moment,” said CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle. Not everyone can join every credit union, but there is a credit union for everyone, and we can’t wait to build on this momentum in more markets across the country.”
Being the first state to launch with CUNA’s national “Open Your Eyes” campaign is exciting, and further illustrates Minnesota Credit Union’s commitment to our members and all Minnesotans best interests,” said MnCUN CEO Mark Cummins. “The campaign represents the true spirit of the cooperative movement to help consumers understand the advantages of being a credit union member.”
More than 40 Minnesota credit unions, including Members Cooperative Credit Union (MCCU), have made a financial commitment to support the category-branding initiative.
