Ways To Save This Valentine’s Day

    2/10/2020

Valentine’s Day. A day for lovers and hopeless romantics everywhere. Whether you love or loath this holiday, there is no denying that love is in the air. So much, that according to the National Retail Federation (NRF) lovesick shoppers spent a record-breaking $20.7 billion dollars on Valentine’s Day last year, and retailers expect to have another record-breaking year. Don’t let your heart strings tug at your wallet, here are five ways to save this Valentine’s Day.

Ways To Save This Valentine's Day

    Give the gift of time

A precious, yet inexpensive present is the gift of time. Instead of spending money, spend quality time with your loved one(s). Whether it’s playing a game, going on an outdoor adventure, or looking through old pictures, time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters.

    Serve instead of spend

Instead of showering your loved one with gifts, a simple gesture of service can go a long way. Whether it’s emptying the dishwasher, putting laundry away, or picking up the clutter, why not surprise your loved one by taking over a chore? The littlest of things can make all the difference.

Get creative by capitalizing on your favorite memory or inside joke

Remember the old saying: It’s the thought that counts? It’s true! Share a favorite memory or inside joke with that special someone by preparing a gift that reflects that. For instance, print and frame a photo from your favorite trip or prepare a basket of their favorite things. Sometimes being creative will get you more bonus points than spending a ton of money, especially if the gift is personal and from the heart.

Write a poem or make a card

Put pen to paper, and channel your inner Shakespeare! There is nothing more romantic or touching than expressing your inner thoughts on paper.  A heartfelt poem or a handmade card is a great way to do this, plus it’s free!  All it takes is a sheet of paper and your willingness to tap into your romantic side.

    Cook dinner together

Instead of agonizing over where to make reservations for an over-priced Valentine’s Day dinner, cook a romantic meal for two at home instead! Not only will your wallet thank you, but you’ll get to enjoy the fruits of your labor and focus on what matters most – each other.  As the cliché saying goes: “Couples who cook together, stay together.”
