Name: Chesney Kesty
Position: Accounting Technician Supervisor
Length of Employment: 13 years
Let’s turn the clock back to your beginning days at MCCU. What position did you first interview for? How did you learn of the position? What was your interview like?
A friend of a friend told me there was a job opening at the Cloquet office. I was only 19 years old when I first interviewed for a part-time MSR position. I felt very nervous and out of my comfort zone because I had not done many interviews before this one; I was still working at the first two jobs I ever had. Those who interviewed me were extremely nice, and they made me feel comfortable. I got a phone call a couple weeks later and was offered the position. I accepted and the rest is history.
What is your favorite MCCU memory?
My favorite memory is working in the drive-up and all the fun conversations I have had over the years with my coworkers.
What are three work-related facts about you?
1.) My very first job was working as a groundskeeper at a golf course near where I grew up.
2.) The summer after graduating high school, I worked for Asplundh Tree Co. as a spray man. It was hot and hard labor, but also rewarding and a great experience.
3.) On a whim, I chose to go to college for accounting. To be honest, I hated math, and it was my worst subject in school. When someone suggested I go to school for accounting that was my first reply. They explained to me that there’s more to accounting than just math. When things don’t work out perfect, one must dig around to find the solution. That is the most rewarding part of my job - finding the issues and fixing them.
How has the financial world changed since you first started at MCCU?
Members are performing less face-to-face transactions and are resorting to their smart devices more and more every day.
What item(s) would you put in a MCCU time capsule to be opened up 100 years from now?
I would keep a record of our membership count from each branch location so we can see the growth that’s happened in 100 years.
