    Community Involvement - Dan Gillman11/2/2018

    Living Out Our Vision

As an organization we strive to be a healthy part of our communities. We nurture a culture of service among our employees and would like to recognize their involvement and the ways in which they contribute.

We are excited to share how Grand Rapids Financial Solutions Consultant, Dan Gillman volunteers his time at work and in his community.

    Involvement - Dan Gillman

Dan currently serves on the Itasca Community College Foundation Board of Directors and has volunteered his time and resources with a multitude of organizations in the Grand Rapids/Hibbing area, including: United Way Buddy Backpacks, Adopt-a-Highway, Rampage at the Ridge, Adopt-a-Family, March of Dimes, ALS Superior Hero Dash, and his Church Vestry.

Dan’s volunteer quest has been a personal one after losing his unborn son due to stillbirth. “My son Leo is the reason I do everything,” said Dan. “It may sound selfish, but the thought that someone out there is unable to provide care for their children when others just want a child to provide for breaks my heart”.

Dan recounted one of his favorite volunteer moments:

“While volunteering for Adopt-a-Family, I was helping one woman load her presents and food into her Suburban. As the last box was loaded, she kind of keeled over. In the rush of things, I didn’t notice right away, but I asked if she was okay? She turned to me with tears in her eyes and asked, “Can I give you a hug?” She proceeded to tell me that without the program and “people like you”, her kids wouldn’t have received anything for Christmas, and the gifts/food she received was so, so much more than she was expecting. We hugged, and I wished her a Merry Christmas. She replied, “I will, thanks to people like you. You have a Merry Christmas too. Dan has been recognized by the Blandin Foundation Leadership Program and the Hibbing Chamber Leadership Program for his community involvement. In 2015, he won the “Hibbing Chamber Alumni of the Year” award for his work in the community.

Keep up the great work, Dan! Your commitment to your community is unparalleled.

    THE STRENGTH OF ME.
